Under Win7 32-bit, I found the trick was to do this: • Remove all previous sound drivers (I had tried Realtech, other AC97, several SoundMax versions). • Go to Windows Update, and disable automatic download and install (otherwise, your work may be undone by an automatic Windows Update of the carefully-installed driver). • Go to Asus website, search for the motherboard and download the SoundMax drivers for Windows XP - for me, the one originally used was version 5.
